'Avatars' from Tata Motors

My first experience with Tata's Marco polo gave a re-affirmation to my conviction that Tata Motors will introduce something crap which eventually causes agony to the public. Probably it is a curse eventhough they dont intend to do so.My start of the journey at Banashankari appeared normal in midst of traffic as it was inevitable to go slow. But when it reached Uttarahalli road where one can cruise easily, Marco polo was struggling to give a pull. I could see and hear vehicles honking at this tortoise bus to give them way to overtake. It was hot and one of the passenger asked the driver to switch on A/c which the driver did hesitantly. The speed went even more worse and driver had to switch off the A/c.Conductor started blaming government that they invested in this bus eventhough Marco polo was a failure in trial runs.

Government probably was in swadeshi mood when it decided to introduce these buses. Cost may be less, but this bus really adds to agony of already cramped roads.Tata's contribution to messing up starts with Tata indica. During this time, Grand old man Ratan tata with his profound thoughts wanted to give employment to every drop outs and runaway culprits from villages. This paved way for Tata indica and you must have seen how these beneficiaries of Tata rozgar yojana are mercilessly killing people in road accidents.Only Indica drivers could clinch this notorious title - 'Cab driver'.Its a feather on Ratan's cap too.

Having made people frantic seeing Tata indica and Tata sumo, Tata wanted to give another 'gift' to this nation. It seems he saw a family on a rainy day waiting for a bus. And instead of giving them a lift, he made a business decision to work on Nano. Best example of converting a socialist idea into a business strategy. Could not understand why Tata sobbed while narrating this story.

Instead of investing nearly 2lakh prinicpal amount in powerless Nano, that family would have afforded to go by an auto or even buy second hand maruthi 800 which could be used
comfortably even in highways.Tata could not understand that, Middle class indian mentality is to save money and not for any luxury.By any chance if indian middle class go by Tata's Nano, traffic in metros are bound to be more chaotic. Anyways, waiting what next Avatar from Tata motors.

Inglorious Bastards

Audacious and brave Devegowda has done it again. He has shown reality to Yediyurappa as to where political class belong. People may slam devegowda for using unparliamentary words lowering political decorum, but i was amazed and delighted by his choicest epithets. What do we as commoners curse politicians in day to day life for pathetic infrastructure, their indifferent attitudes towards social issues and corruption? Can anyone refuse that they never cursed politicans with the language Devegowda used. Ofcourse not in public, but Devegowda is a public figure and if he uses such language for a social cause, then he should be appreciated. He has the real guts.Even at this age he has not run out of gas. Sometimes these checkpoints are needed for politicians to introspect where they stand and not to carry over by power and money. There is someone who can spit on your face literally. I am not fan of Devegowda nor his party. But sometimes i feel few actions of Devegowda and his previous adminstrative actions are touching to commoners.

In Pursuit of Admission

Gone are the days when kids would rest and play till the age of 5 before joining to school. It was a luxury for kids and treat to watch them play for parents. But now admission takes place at the age of 2.5yrs.Parents are increasingly cognitive about their child's education and choice of schools.A new money making scheme called 'Montessari' has been introduced by educational institutions which pull kids to be occupied at the age of 2.5yrs.Parents who want their kids to survive in this competetive world, just flock to schools to get admission.

A sort of fear and confusion grips them when their kid reaches 2yrs of age as to which school to admit. We had the same quandary with my son who turned 2yrs this july. First we shortlisted schools nearby. Then enquired about the yearly fees. There are schools which charge even 1lakh per annum. My entire education fee including engineering didnt exceed 25k.Dont know what education these institutes provide that we have to pay 1lakh per annum.
For some reputed schools, with fixed intake, there is a lot of demand. Admission forms will be given only on single day and the parents will queue up the night before. Some rich folks will queue their drivers, servants overnight to get admission form. This is to get just the admission form. Parents along with the child has to attend interview along with the application. There are some schools which admit based on the parent's monthly salary.

There are also variety of syllabus like state,CBSE and ICSE in the increasing order of precedence. For some, for unknown reasons, ICSE students look smarter than CBSE. State syllabus is the least and people look down upon them. From years, there are examples of persons hailing from remote villages with no family education background ,studied in government schools and still made exemplary achievements in their fields with just desire to excel. It is the attitude, determination and not the school which drives one's passion.Parents should drop their prejudice over the syllabus and try avoid giving donations.By this atleast we can mitigate this education mafia.
I dont know whether i follow what i say.But i am sure to declare victory and celebrate once i get my son admitted to school.

Big Trap

This story is about a temple, situated far away from village. It was around 25kms from the
nearest village. Temple belonged to private trust managed by 5 villages.Village headman(Sarpanch) was the incharge of day to day affairs of this temple. To describe him,he was tall, muscular, tough and ruthless in character.never used to laugh nor gave a smile.

He had a task to newly appoint a Archak(purohit) as the previous Archak ran away unable to bear this guy and meaningless rules. Sarpanch called for face to face meeting with new archak(hero of our story) near temple premises. So our Archak came there a litl bit late as he had to travel from a distance of 25kms. Sarpanch as usual was not happy that archak wasnot in time, but somehow controlled his temparament. Sarpanch-" ok,first time late, but this
should not happen in future. I am giving you this offer. This is your salary-X rupees.Do you
agree?'.Archak raised his eyebrows-"So less?". Sarpanch-"Less? This salary is fixed.Who will take the money offering of Mangalarti? Dont you make money there?".

Archak had no idea of how much collection will happen everyday.he could not even ask the
previous archak as he had escaped. So unaware of what will be his 'Variable component',he asked the sarpanch "How much may be this Mangalarti collection?". Sarpanch was again irritated "100%" he said." This temple is also visited by tourists. More than that,it
depends on your performance,if you serve devotees better ,they will offer more. This is
common sense, you should know this".Archak was stunned.Somebody taught him common sense aftera long time.
Sarpanch continued-"I beleive in commitment, values, ethics, discipline.I should
not receive complaints from devotees about you.You should overperform and take this temple to the heights of Tirupathi". Archak wondered where this temple and where far way tirupathi.
He started realizing why the previous archak ran away.Sarpanch was more interested in
revenues from the temple as he was a major shareholder.Sarpanch gave a final blow " You have to be here by for first puja at 6:30 am and leave only by 8:30 pm".Archak was confused whether he was joing military or a temple to offer puja.'Work hours, discipline, ethics' all resemble army traits.

There was a deep pain in Archak's heart, little bit tensed about his fate, archak didnt speak for few seconds. Then he realized,he has to agree for this or try to negotiate. He started " My salary is less, this temple is 25kms away from home.Fuel will eat away my salary.I have an old Luna". Sarpanch had a quick answer"there is an arrangement. I will send a bullock cart to pick and drop you from home. You can pay meagre fee to the rider.".Archak had no answer. He had lot of commitment and wanted an urgent job for his livelihood. He nodded and agreed for this offer. While leaving,he had a small question."Who will be the back up for me if i fall sick?I cannot work like a donkey here. There are 6 idol gods here which i have to take care from 6:30 morning to 8:30 night".
Sarpanch had all these already calculated. He didnt want to loose revenue because of his absence."I will have a young archak who will assist you" he said. Archak's thoughts started flowing on the word 'Young'. "How young can he be?I am still 35.Am i old?".

It was his first day,he had to wake up early. It took arnd 1hour to travel in bullock
cart, thanks to old oxes and old rider. So Archak rescheduled his time of exit from home to 5:15 to reach temple by 6:30.Night he would reach his home at 9:30
night. It was a bad fate of Archak. After few days,he came to know that even variable
component was not good enough.Due to his constraints,he could not leave the job as well.He was in a trap,by his fate.

People are smart enough to understand to whom this story resembles. This is common fate of people working in IT companies listed in NSE,BSE.Needless to explain their paralysed work life balance and their commitment to 'Commute'.

Will continue in next post.

Why this Blog name

Why the name Vichitrachitta? VichitraChitta is a sanskrit word meaning unique thoughts or weird thoughts. This was the title given to Pallava king MahendraVarman-I.Very unique in his thoughts, he was pioneer in building temples with stones. It was he who had said that ‘never again will a temple be made of perishable material’.Temples were built with perishable materials like bricks and mortar at that time.Cave temples were also his contribution. His chitta was into music and paintings as well and was expert in them.Wrote several books.Straightforward and also a good critic in his books. He had varied interests. His thoughts were different from others.

How i got to know this title was when i was preparing History notes for Public service examination in year2001.More than Mahendravarma, Vichitrachitta title was very appealing to me. Sounded just as me(not in actions).Whenever i used to get weird thoughts, i would myself call vichitrachitta. Now,to name my blog, thought this is an apt name.
